Why is peace so hard to find?
We’re messed up.
God says that we have no peace because we choose our own way instead of His perfect way. We’re at war with God. In fact, even the “good” things we do have selfish motives. There is no good apart from God.
“As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:10
“Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known.” Romans 3:16-17
Is peace possible?
God made a way
Even though we fight God, He loves us. He wants peace with us. But our sin is destructive, and God’s perfect justice cannot pass over what we have done. That is where Jesus Christ enters the equation. The sinless Son of God took the capital punishment for our sin in His own body on a bloody cross.
“Having made peace through the blood of His cross, by Him to reconcile all things unto Himself.” Colossians 1:20
“But God demonstrated His own love for us in this, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” John 14:6
Peace at last
There is no other way to peace than Jesus Christ. When I came to Him, asked Him to forgive me, and let Him start work on making me a new person, He changed every aspect of my life. This life will always be difficult. But when I die, I know I will live with God because Jesus made peace for me.
